Successful workshop for young researchers on financial education research at ZEW Mannheim
On 16 and 17 October 2025, the first workshop on financial education for young researchers took place at ZEW Mannheim. Around 30 doctoral students from projects funded by the financial education research programme took part in the two-day workshop, which taught basic research methods in this field.
Prof. Dr. Tim Kaiser (RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau) introduced empirical methods of research on financial education, while Dr. Angela Sorgente (Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Milan) gave an introduction to systematic reviews. Both presentations provided participants with valuable insights into current methodological approaches and challenges in research. Participants were then able to deepen their knowledge in smaller groups in practical workshops. Under the guidance of Prof. Kaiser and Dr. Sorgente, they worked on the application of empirical methods and the systematic evaluation of existing research results.
The programme was complemented by a jamboree, where doctoral students presented their own research questions and designs, as well as a fireside chat. In addition to scientific exchange, the workshop also offered opportunities for networking – for example, during a joint dinner at ZEW and a guided tour of Mannheim.
