Meta project
Financial education is not just a specialised education for financial market players - it is relevant for everyone in order to cope with financial life situations and to understand and help shape framework conditions. This is particularly true with regard to current economic, technological and social transformation processes and their impact on the financial decisions of people of all age groups. Financial education plays a central role in enabling people in Germany to manage their lives competently, to participate in the economy and society in a reflected manner and to ensure their financial well-being.
The growing importance of financial education and the need for its systematic promotion in Germany is reflected in the initiative "Financial Education," jointly launched by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the Federal Ministry of Finance (BMF). This initiative includes the development of a national financial education strategy, the creation of a central financial education platform, and, in particular, the strengthening of research on financial education.
The "MetaFin" project aims to network the projects funded under this initiative, prepare national and international research results on financial education, and create a solid decision-making foundation for financial education in Germany. It focuses on three central areas of action: Networking, Accompanying Research and Knowledge transfer. The project is being carried out by the Oldenburg Institute for Economic Education (IÖB) in cooperation with the Mannheim Institute for Financial Education (MIFE), the Leibniz Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW), and the University of Mannheim.
On the following pages, you can learn more about the areas of action and about the Team of MetaFin.
