Learning with serious games in upper secondary school under inclusion of the parental background
The project
LeGacy
It is known from the literature that the parental home has the greatest influence on the financial attitudes, expertise and behaviour of young people. This is inevitably associated with social origin effects. School programmes, on the other hand, offer the potential to support learners accordingly, regardless of their background. Existing reviews also point to the potential of game-based approaches, although these have so far tended to be researched separately from the influence of family financial socialisation. Against this backdrop, the ‘LeGacy’ research project aims to (1) identify conditions of effectiveness for the effective involvement of parents in a school-based financial education programme and (2) investigate the impact of a game-based learning environment at upper secondary level to promote financial literacy with the active involvement of parents while at the same time ensuring equal opportunities. The target group here is upper secondary level learners who, due to their age, are about to take on a greater degree of financial responsibility. Through the digitally-supported further development of the extensively tested game-based financial education programme Moonshot, these research objectives are to be empirically investigated as part of a mixed-methods approach. The scientifically evaluated programme will then be made publicly available as an Open Educational Resource (OER).
