Healthy finances for women in transition to parenthood
The project
GFFE
The transition to parenthood is a phase of life that is accompanied by profound changes, especially for women. Many future parents worry about their finances and have to redefine their financial goals. While expenses increase, a reduction in working hours (usually for the mother) often reduces disposable income. Achieving financial goals requires both basic financial education and self-regulation in implementing behavioural changes, such as tracking income and expenditure, seeking advice and applying for state benefits. At the same time, most people do not pursue their financial goals alone, but together with their social environment (e.g. in a partnership, with their family of origin, among friends). While previous empirical research has shown the effect of self-regulation training on the successful pursuit of goals, the social processes involved in pursuing financial goals have been less researched to date. The aim of this research project is the participatory development, empirical investigation and translation of an intervention to reduce the experience of financial stress and to improve the financial literacy, individual self-regulation and social support of women in transition to parenthood. The aim is to improve women's financial security, initially acutely and later in the medium and long term.
