Evaluation of financial education interventions across human life
The project
EvaFin
The EvaFin joint project investigates whether, to what extent, for whom, under what conditions and how financial education interventions can contribute to effectively and sustainably supporting the development of financial literacy and its transfer into financial behaviour (overcoming the attitude-behaviour gap). In co-operation with practice partners, a theoretically and methodologically sound evaluation concept will be developed to answer these questions. The concept will be applied to 12 financial education programmes aimed at people in different educational stages or phases of life. The implementation of the 12 evaluations leads directly to insights into the quality and potential for improvement of the financial education programmes included. The project thus contributes to increasing the evidence base of financial education in Germany. The results also provide a differentiated understanding of the causal relationships (in particular conditions for success and mechanisms of action) of financial education interventions, which have been little researched to date. The project thus makes a substantial contribution in the international research context, as there have been no systematic studies of these aspects beyond the evaluation of individual measures to date.
