Financial everyday practices of adults
The project
Fin-Prak-PIAAC
The project analyses the financial-related everyday behaviour of adults on the basis of the current population-representative, international comparative data set of the OECD's PIAAC study (cycle 2, 31 countries). The connection between practices and competences was described empirically and theoretically and the great importance of practices for the acquisition and consolidation of competences was proven. Frequent application of domain-specific competences in everyday professional and private life precedes substantial competence growth. Frequent use of acquired competences reduces the risk of losing competences.
However, little research has been conducted into everyday practices in the context of finance. The project addresses this research gap. It aims to analyse the first post-Covid dataset of this size in order to identify differences between subpopulations in financial-related activities in everyday life in a country and time comparison for Germany. The focus is on the difference categories of gender and migration. Analyses are multivariate in order to capture the weight of factors influencing financial practices in everyday life. Country and time comparisons make it possible to describe the situation in Germany and its development. They thus contribute to expanding the specific state of research and deriving data-based recommendations for educational and counselling practice as well as educational administrations.
