Financial education for young adults in precarious situations
The project
FiBiCare
Research shows that financial behaviour is strongly dependent on family ‘paths’ and milieu-specific conditions. This social disadvantage is particularly pronounced among young adults for whom counselling is burdened by the family environment or, given the diversity in young adulthood, inequalities in the links between disadvantages are potentiated. The aim of the project is to contribute to strengthening the financial education of young adults in precarious situations. To this end, the data on the financial situation and education of young adults will first be analysed and the national and international state of research on financial education will be recorded in a systematic review. Building on this, participatory research methods will be used to gather findings on life situation and age-specific needs and requirements and to develop and test programmes to strengthen financial participation and education for care leavers and young Muslim women. The focus here is on the exemplary target groups with their needs and requirements in the participatory research design, but also on support networks and professionals. The extent to which the approaches and offers of the exemplary groups are transferable to other groups will be examined. By testing and evaluating this teaching and learning programme, the concept will be continuously developed with a focus on the conditions for success.
