Development and validation of a technology-based assessment for the diagnosis of action-oriented financial competence
The project
EVerFit
The joint project aims to develop and validate an innovative instrument for measuring the financial competence of adolescents and young adults in vocational training. These are technology-based situational judgement tests (SJT). In these tests, adolescents and young adults are presented with complex, authentic financial decision-making situations supported by technology. Their decision-making processes and the decisions themselves are to be recorded holistically, taking into account both cognitive and non-cognitive dispositions. Data is collected using closed and open response formats as well as thinking aloud, eye tracking and emotion recognition. The instrument is validated via several qualitative and quantitative studies that allow the best possible evidence-based interpretation of the test scores. The development of the instrument follows the Evidence-Centred Assessment Design (ECD), and the test validation is based on the Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing. The result is an assessment that makes it possible to measure financial competence holistically and to identify starting points for targeted support measures. The results are to be integrated into (vocational) school practice in order to effectively support the development of learners' financial literacy.
