Financial education through finfluencers? Supporting specialised, reflective learning with explanatory videos

Explanatory videos by finfluencers are an informal, freely available educational offering on the internet, especially for young people, which has recently grown in importance by leaps and bounds, but is not subject to any independent quality control. It can be assumed that the quality of this educational offer varies considerably and that the recipients are at the same time financially rather immature. This is where schools can take on the important task of enabling pupils to critically reflect on the subject by working with these explanatory videos in class. In order to be able to select and use the explanatory videos effectively for learning, teachers need the diagnostic skills to assess their pupils' comprehension abilities appropriately. In this project, an evidence-based innovative teaching/learning offer will be developed for this purpose by 1) analysing the quality of explanatory videos by finfluencers in German-speaking countries in terms of economics and communication science, economic didactics and educational science, 2) examining the associated content-related, metacognitive and epistemological aspects, metacognitive and epistemic comprehension difficulties of the pupils, 3) as well as the teachers' abilities to anticipate these, 4) the effectiveness of a training course developed for this purpose is tested in an intervention and 5) a handout for teachers is developed from this.
